Driver Recruiting

I. Drivers needed, Company Semi-Tractor and Owner Operator Pickup or Semi-Tractor:

Jet Transportation is the transportation company for Jayco, Inc. one of the largest Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers in the nation and is located in the small northern Indiana town of Middlebury just thirty-five miles east of South Bend, IN. Jet provides transportation services to over 400 Jayco RV Dealers in all lower forty-eight states, Alaska and Canada. We also contract our services to other RV Manufacturers through out the country. We are a "for hire" licensed Carrier.

To be eligible for a position with Jet Transportation, Inc. the individual must meet the following minimum qualifications.

  1. Must be at least 25 years of age
  2. Must have verifiable proof of previous experience for this type of work
  3. Must hold a drivers license that meets their state resident requirement for type of work applied for:
    • CDL Class A for a Semi-tractor Driver
    • State requirement license for commercial driving of a pickup truck & trailer combination of up to 26,000 lbs.
  4. Must have a MVR record denoting no more than 3 moving violations in last 3 years
  5. Must have a MVR record denoting no more than 2 moving violations in last year
  6. Must have a MVR record denoting no more than 2 preventable accidents/incidents in last 3 years
  7. Must have a MVR record denoting no more than 2 preventable accidents/incidents in a one year period
  8. Must have a MVR record denoting no drug, DUI, OWI, DWI, Careless, Reckless Driving or Habitual Traffic Offenses, and no Felony or disregard for public safety convictions in the last 5 years.
  9. Must have a MVR record denoting no moving violation suspensions in the last 5 years
  10. Must have a valid long form DOT physical examination certificate.

If you qualify you must complete an application for retention and sign waivers to allow Jet Transportation, Inc to run required back ground and previous employment checks per Federal DOT Regulations.

II. Equipment Requirements for Owner Operators of Pickup Trucks / Semi-Tractors. No equipment requirements for Company Driver Applicants.

A. Pickup Trucks (Single or Dually Axles)

  1. ¾ or 1 ton capacity (no gasoline powered engines)
  2. Mud flaps- maximum 4" from ground on rear
  3. D.O.T. Required Emergency Equipment
    • Flares or Reflective Triangles
    • Approved Fire Extinguisher
  4. 7 Terminal Bargman Plug for trailer electrical hookup
  5. 15K 5th Wheel Hitch - truck bed must be 8 ft in length no short box beds
  6. Class III Load Leveling frame mounted hitch with:
    • Receiver with 2" and 2 5/16" balls
    • Load Leveling Bars
  7. Current Truck D.O.T. Federal Inspection Certificate
  8. Electrical Brake System
  9. 12V power supply for break away switch (replaces 12V battery when unit towed has no battery)
  10. Proof of vehicle registration, license plating vehicle for commercial use per drivers state requirement. Most vehicles will be plated from 22,000 to 26,000 lbs. and should not exceed 26,000 lbs.

B. Semi-Tractor (Single or Tandem Axle)

  1. Current D.O.T. Inspection Certificate
  2. Mud Flaps - Maximum of 4" from the ground
  3. D.O.T. Required Emergency Equipment
    • Flares or Reflective Triangles
    • Approved Fire Extinguisher
  4. Fifth Wheel Setting
    • Single Axle - 39" to 42" High and 60" from Pin Center to rear of frame
    • Tandem Axle - 39" to 42" High and 70" from Pin Center to rear of frame
  5. Tire Size - Low Profile 22.5 - 11R/22.5
  6. Special Plug wired on tractor to supply power to unloading winch
  7. Vehicle must meet Jet Vehicle condition requirements as outlined in the Independent Contractor Equipment Contract and pass a Jet Inspection.

III.Orientation and Final Qualification

After you have completed your Driver and Vehicle "Pre-qualification" you will attended Jet's 4-6 hour "Driver Orientation and Documentation Class." All drivers are required to attend prior to first dispatch. These classes are held through out the calendar year and are scheduled on Wednesday of most work weeks.

During orientation your D.O.T. "Drivers Qualification File" will be created. In addition, you will receive training in accident/incident and damage reporting along with proper D.O.T. logging instruction. Jet is proud to offer its driver this extra training edge. Our Dispatchers will review dispatch procedures and load assignments and at completion of the day you will be eligible for your first dispatched load.
